Update on new National Parks process

NatureScot opens formal consultation on a proposed new National Park in Scotland

SCNP have long campaigned for Scotland to add to its current two National Parks. We are closely following the current process to select Scotland’s next park(s).

On 7th November 2024 NatureScot opened the formal public consultation on the proposal for a new National Park. You can have your say here.

Galloway was chosen as the potential location for Scotland’s third National Park after an evaluation process of the five bids submitted. We now enter the formal consultation stage, which will be followed in the Spring of 2025 by NatureScot providing the Scottish Government with advice and a consultation analysis.  See SCNP news items on the consultation, the proposal for the new National Park  and the Reporter’s Plan .

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park provide an insight into the benefits National Park status brings to an area.
