Scottish Campaign for National Parks -
Update on new National Parks process

Galloway announced as proposed new National Park - plan for detailed investigation and consultation published

SCNP have long campaigned for Scotland to add to its current two National Parks. We are closely following the current process to select Scotland’s next park(s).

Galloway was chosen as the potential location for Scotland’s third National Park after an evaluation process of the five bids submitted. A plan for the next stage of the statutory process, a detailed Reporter’s investigation led by NatureScot, has been published. It will involve a period of public engagement and information gathering, a formal consultation and then analysis of the reponses received. NatureScot will report to Scottish Ministers by the end of April 2025.  See SCNP news items on the proposal for the new National Park  and the Reporter’s Plan here. Or visit Nature.scot to see the published Plan.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park provide an insight into the benefits National Park status brings to an area.
